Forthe past two days, I've been working on a video for our school's 9/11 remembrance this Friday. The video is meant to inspire students and staff at our school to serve their communities--to take back September 11th as a day of kindness and service instead of a day of evil and tragedy. I've been researching stories of ordinary people who were heroes on that day, and many of them gave every bit of their lives in the service of their fellow man.
I don't know about you, but it's hard for me to imagine giving my ALL, I mean, my entire LIFE to something. I cannot imagine making a split second decision to serve, knowing it would probably cost me my life. I guess no one really knows what they will do in a situation like that until they are in the midst of it. I hope that under that kind of stress, I could be one of the people who gave her all for someone else!
This week, can we remember those who gave the full measure of their devotion for all of us? This week, my blog will cover ordinary people who did extraordinary things in service to their communities, our nation, and humanity as a whole. As we remember these people together, think about the qualities they display in their service & sacrifice for all of us. And think about your life and your service to others. Can we "step it up?"
