This Thanksgiving I'm cooking my first turkey! I'm actually hosting my first Thanksgiving dinner for family members. It was going to be my Mom, Dad, their significant others, and my aunt. Well, Aunt Ruth just called to tell me that she can't come. She was SO upset because she thought I was going to be disappointed. Well, of course, I want her to come and I'm sad that she's not going to be with us, but I totally understand. The relief in her voice was obvious and I could tell that she was really worried that she was going to ruin my Thanksgiving by not coming to my house.
I think sometimes we can show the most kindness by simply being understanding of one another. Perhaps a co-worker snapped at you during the day? Maybe someone flicked you off as you were driving down the road (this actually happened to me the other night and I have NO idea what I did to make them upset)? We have two choices when we are sad or angry: we can dwell on our emotions, often making them more significant or we can forgive and move on, understanding that in the near future, we may do something that requires those we love to be understanding of us! Let's not rush to react or judge another's actions...let's try hard to be understanding!
