Have you ever realized how much easier it is to complain rather than be positive about your life, the government, & the world? Lately, I've found myself being rather negative about a lot of things, but going back to school (I'm a teacher) this week it all came to a head. Lower pay, more work, more students, etc...it was very easy to sit back and wonder WHY I had entered this career.
Then I turned on the news...health care, war, injustice...it's EVERYWHERE! Someone is scamming someone else out of money, someone is screaming at a politician, someone else is wondering if the world is really going to end on December 21, 2012 at 11:11pm. Negative, negative, negative.
Now, I'm a christian. I believe in the Bible as the infallible word of God and I believe everything that it says. I know Jesus as my personal friend and savior and believe that he can do ANYTHING he wants with us and this great big world. However, even KNOWING those facts, I still find myself being negative and wondering where God is sometimes. And then I remember the verse about reaping what we sow in this life, and the story of the Israelities and their complaining. I remember how God decided to make them wander around in a desert for 40 years because they wouldn't stop murmuring under their breath and being negative about their situation. What if I'm wandering because I'm complaining?! What if I'm reaping negativity because I'm being negative? What if our world is increasingly more immoral and unjust and evil because WE are immoral, unjust, and evil? How can we turn it around?
I propose that we start thinking about the positive and helping our fellow man! That is why I'm going on a personal journey. For how long, who knows, but I want to journey to the side of positivity! I'm going to perform a random act of kindness EVERY DAY over the next few months and reflect on them to turn my thinking around and become more positive. I hope that those of you who are reading this out there, will do the same and that maybe together, we can starting sowing seeds of positivity and kindness instead of negativity and discord. Write me and tell me YOUR acts of kindness. Perhaps together we will learn about ourselves, each other, and this big, big world we are stewards of. I can't wait to start the journey...
