So this morning I panicked that I wouldn't ever be able to find something nice to do for someone EVERY DAY! Right off the bat, as soon as I got out of bed, I asked God to show me SOMEONE I could be nice to today. I need help because I don't always see who needs what. I guess it's my selfishness & focus on tasks and jobs that sometimes tends to get in the way of seeing a person's real need.
I had been focusing on TASKS--what specific actions could I perform today to help someone, but what I learned today is that it can be something even smaller that affects someone's life. A random word of encouragement did the trick today. I can't go into all of the details in case this person reads this some day, but a friend of mine is struggling right now. They are in a rut (how many of us are?) and cannot seem to find the enjoyment that they are seeking from life. As a I prayed for myself today at church, this person popped into my mind and I began to pray for them. That's when it happened...God urged me to be kind to this person through my words to encourage them on and to help them not to give up in their quest for fulfillment. It's amazing what the power of the tongue can do! Just a few minutes with this person helped them in great ways. And the best part is that it wasn't about what I said or did, it was that my obedience in serving GOD helped confirm something that was already in their heart; something they were already feeling.
Another amazing thing, is that their words back to me were exactly what I needed to hear today for my own life.
So, here are the lessons from today's Random Act of Kindness:
1. Never forget the power of a word or the power of your tongue. They can do more than the greatest or worst actions can.
2. Being obedient does bring blessing.
3. It's not about ME! It's not about MY actions. It's about what can happen when I do what I'm asked to do and God's power works through me.
I challenge you...find someone who needs an encouraging word today. As someone once said, "The power of life and death is in the tongue." Choose life!
