Fear...isn't it true that fear is one of the major motivators in our lives? We either do things or don't do things often because of fear.
This afternoon, a colleague of mine became afraid because a student sort of threatened her. She was afraid of the student's intentions and motives as well as the principal's reaction to the incident if she reported it. She didn't want to do anything to hurt the student; she didn't want to do nothing in case something more happened. She was paralyzed, not knowing what to do or who to talk to and she came to me for help.
So often, we are paralyzed by the fear of the unknown, the fear of doing the wrong thing, or the fear of stepping out of disappointing someone. The one thing that can dispel that fear though, is someone else's support and love. We fear because we don't want to be alone in our scary circumstances.
My friend today was unable to do anything until she had a friend to support her. When she came to me, I dropped what I was doing and said "walk with me." I went with her to the office and she reported the incident. Everything turned out totally fine. But what would have happened if no one had supported her or helped her with her fear? She might still be pondering that situation or worrying about what to do. Even though this was a very minor issue, think about friends or family members who might be going through something more difficult, or even life-threatening! How can WE help someone who is paralyzed by fear? Be on the lookout for people around you who need support and then offer to drop everything to walk with them. What a blessing you can be to a person in fear!
