"It Always Feels Like, Somebody's Watching Me"

Did you know that people are ALWAYS watching you? They are always looking and evaluating your actions, especially if you are in a position of authority or acting as a role model. Your words, your actions, your decisions, your moments of weakness--they see it all! That can be a sobering thought because many times we do not stop to think about the image are portraying or what we are doing. Most of the time, we are reacting or just going along with life the best way we know how.

Today, two young ladies came to talk to me during study hall. They wanted to read their college entrance essays to me to see what I thought. As one young lady read her essay, she talked about wanting to become a teacher. It was extremely well-written and she displayed a lot of confidence in her decision. When she was finished I jokingly said, "I guess I HAVE made an impact on you, ha ha!" To my surprise both girls replied, "You are the best teacher I've ever had! I want to do this because of your example." I was shocked, especially today. First period this morning (their class), I was so out of sorts that I wasn't making any sense. I had two difficult students in my class this morning who I ended up sending out of the room--it was just NOT my best teaching day. How could they think I was the best teacher ever? And then it hit me...THEY ARE WATCHING. What a great reminder! They are paying attention, even in my moments of weakness, to see how to live, how to conduct themselves, and how to react in tough situations.

Who is watching you? Maybe it's one of your children? Maybe a neighbor across the street? Maybe a stranger who knows there is a quality in your life that they want in theirs? If we live our lives with the realization that someone is looking, we might live differently.
