Warning of Impending Danger--SLOW DOWN

On my way home from the gym this morning, I was loving life. I had the windows down, the sunroof open, the wind blowing through my hair, I was proud of myself for working so hard at the gym--it was awesome! As I turned onto Greenwood Road, I passed a pick-up truck and the driver had his hand out of the window, pumping his arm up and down. "What's that crazy guy doing?" I thought to myself. "Why was he staring me down as he did that?" I thought for sure it was a "Winchester weirdo," trying to give me some strange, inappropriate gesture. Then I turned the sharp corner and saw the flashing lights of a police car and a bigger pick-up truck sitting in the middle of the road. I slammed on my breaks and narrowly missed the rear bumper of the truck that was broken down. Then it dawned on me...the guy with his hand out of the window was telling me to slow down; he was warning me of impending danger. He didn't want me to hit the police car or the pick-up! I felt like an idiot. As I passed the scene and other cars coming toward it on the sharp winding road, I started flashing my lights at people who passed, like the poor pick-up, hand out of the window guy had. Hopefully some of those drivers were a little more receptive to my warning.

All of this got me thinking, in fact, God immediately told me that this would be my blog for the day, so I hope someone out there needs this lesson. How many times is God warning us to slow down? How often does he send someone or some situation into our lives to try to warn us of impending danger? And how often do we ignore that person or sign?

I'm not a person who likes to sit still for long. I don't like to be idle. I want to constantly accomplish things. When I'm sick or delayed on achieving a goal, or something doesn't go the way I want it to, I can easily get "bent out of shape" about that situation instead of taking a step back to ask God why I've been stopped or slowed. Maybe we need to be on the lookout for these divine warnings to slow down? Maybe we need to warn someone else in our lives of dangers we see in their path? Either way, let's make sure we are being obedient to what God has for our lives!

I pray that you will take time to enjoy this beautiful weekend...take time to slow down!
